MMR as a company is dedicated to the stewardship
of the environment through the use of environmentally sound recycling and/or reuse practices in the processing
of wood waste and other bio-mass
materials. MMR operates and/or partners with affiliates in the operation of
numerous wood recovery yards in southern Michigan
that properly process and recycle wood waste
materials. MMR owns and operates specialized wood
recycling equipment including grinders, loaders and
specially designed wood chip transport vans.

Since its inception in 1993, MMR has continued to recycle more than 1.5 million cubic yards of wood waste each year. Most all of this material was
converted to “green” electricity for the use by the
residences of Michigan.
Beginning in October 2002, MMR has worked directly
with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the
United States Department of Agriculture as a participant
in the disposal/recycling of emerald ash borer
(EAB) affected trees. Burning affected trees in the
boiler of the Genesee Power Station was, and still
is, the preferred method of disposal/recycling because there
is no doubt of the beetle’s complete destruction.
MMR, in combination with the Michigan Department of Natural
Resources and the Michigan Department of Agriculture also
participated in other methods of safely recycling
ash logs for higher value uses.
MMR ownership is 50/50 by subsidiaries of CMS Enterprises Company (CMSE) and Fortistar
Biomass Group. CMSE, located in Jackson, Michigan, is the non-regulated subsidiary
of CMS Energy Corporation, an integrated energy infrastructure company. On the utility
side of CMS Energy is Consumers Energy a combined electric and natural gas utility
located in Jackson, Michigan. The Fortistar Biomass Group was formed in 2008 when
it acquired five biomass facilities delivering green/renewable energy to communities
in the United States and Canada.
